It's been interesting today to listen to all the responses to President Obama's speech last night. One thing that stuck out from the speech was not the level of untruthfulness in some of Obama's comments – that's becoming par for the course – but the conviction in Obama's presentation as he outright lied to millions of Americans. You get the sense he's almost pathological. Senator Inhofe (R-OK) noticed the same thing and commented on it this morning:
"I was thinking back to the first State of the Union Address with President Clinton and I thought this guy can say things that are untrue with greater conviction than anyone I've ever seen. I honestly think that Obama is better."
The AP had a pretty good fact check piece today that exposed 10 of the lies from the speech but one they missed is Obama's penchant to blame Bush for his economic troubles. Obama continues to claim he inherited budget issues from Bush. Just a reminder to the One, Congress passes budgets not POTUS and the last 3 budgets came from Democrats. In three years, Democrats increased spending by $900 billion and Obama voted for every budget to come his way as a Senator. You might want to look in the mirror champ, and stop blaming Bush for your problems.
The AP also missed Obama's claim that he walked into a trillion dollar deficit. It was actually $449 billion when Bush left office but what's being off by $551 billion to a bunch of tax and spend progressives? Chump change.
And I just got word that the Phoenix company Obama mentioned as an example of the success of the stimulus is owned by a prominent Democratic donor. He received a $100 million in stimulus money and created 15 jobs in 2009 and is projecting 27 in 2010. That's $2.3 million per job…not exactly a shining example of stimulus success.
