Old people may vote the bums out all by themselves

 

The elderly have always been a much sought after demo in the world of politics.  The old folks tend to pay attention to the issues and always show up to vote.  Always.  And that my friends has become very bad news for Democrats.

McClatchey reports that a new George Washington Battleground poll indicates that the elderly are none to happy with what the current Party in power has been up to:

Democrats have glimpsed their biggest threat this fall, and she is Grandma.

One reason President Barack Obama and other party leaders are rolling out campaigns this week to energize young and minority voters for November's elections is that they've seen the polling data on senior citizens, and it's ugly.

Democrats once counted on voters older than 65, but many seniors' loyalties changed in the past decade. That's partly because of the parties' stands on policy such as fiscal and personal responsibility, and partly, experts said, because the demographic changed. Many of today's seniors started voting in the 1950s, when Republican Dwight Eisenhower was president. The number of seniors whom FDR converted to Democrats in the '30s is shrinking fast.

A majority of seniors backed Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona over Obama in 2008. The seniors' current tilt toward Republicans is being reinforced by Obama's biggest accomplishment as president: the health care overhaul.

A George Washington University Battleground Poll this month found that only 36 percent of likely voters who were 65 and older approved of the health care legislation, which expands and mandates health insurance coverage. That was the lowest approval rating of any voter age group. 

For November's congressional elections, the poll found that seniors are far more inclined to vote for Republicans than for Democrats, by 48 percent to 33 percent.

Living on a fixed income in this world of government fiscal irresponsibility has made the elderly nervous – and with good reason – and they can blame one party for that.  Sorry libs, but their world has been turned completely upside down over the past 15 months due to your Hopenchange agenda.  And they’ve noticed.

Additionally, they’ve seen first hand all the premeditated malice kindness ObamaCare has brought.  As an example, cuts to the Medicare Advantage program have screwed a quarter of the elderly. That little tidbit was noticed by the old folks and ignored by the main stream media, but will be brought up at the ballot boxes this November.

Good news: Detroit to demolish 45 square miles due to failed liberal policy and give it back to nature

I've previously commented on the self destruction of Detroit - at one time, one of America's wealthiest cities - caused in large part due to failed liberal policies that did nothing but cripple the city's ability to prosper.  Yet, I had no idea it was this bad:

That's the unintended consequence of ultra-liberal ideology in a nutshell.  And the problem is, our president and current Congress are doing everything in their power to replicate it at a national level.

Tea Party rally means violence! Call in the riot police!

The Quincy Tea Party Patriots assembled outside the Oakley-Lindsey/Quincy Community Center yesterday - where President Obama was scheduled to speak - and that could only mean one thing: racist teabag violence!  So the SWAT Team was called in by the Secret Service and the local authorities reacted appropriately with snipers on rooftops...

...just in case they needed to take out the crazy right-wing, racist nut-jobs who were protesting outside...

 

At the surprise of no one everyone, these evil hate mongers demonstrated peacefully and never needed to be taken out by the snipers.  

Seriously.  It is time for a new narrative on the Tea Party.  They are nothing that the Left is trying to portray them as, and the photos above just highlight the ridiculousness of their smear campaign. 

Be safe fellow Americans.  You never know when an evil teabagger will strike next!

Obama: "at a certain point you've made enough money."

Anyway, as for the off-script remarks, Ed Morrissey points out that Obama has it all wrong - once again - on numerous levels:

The President doesn’t get to decide when people have “made enough money.” In fact, as the radio host notes, that’s a statist point of view. Furthermore, the responsibility of an entrepreneur isn’t to “grow our economy,” core or otherwise. It’s to grow his own economy. In a properly regulated capitalist system, the natural tension of self-interests create economic growth through innovation and efficient use of capital and resources.

Put simply, a free people work for themselves, not for the government. Barack Obama seems to have a problem understanding that.

Patches Kennedy gets stinking drunk after giving speech on his own substance abuse

 

Only this moron could be so brazenly clueless:

Rep. Patrick Kennedy was spotted doing vodka shots last week at a Capitol Hill bar just hours after he spoke about his history of substance abuse at a charity event.

An HOH tipster and a pal were sitting at the bar at the Capitol Lounge around 11 p.m. on Tuesday when the Rhode Island Democrat walked in and took a seat between the pair. The tipster’s friend asked the Congressman what he was drinking, and when Kennedy replied vodka, the group ordered vodka shots, the tipster tells us.

After slamming down the first round, another was ordered, then a third. Our tipster and his friend stopped doing shots, but Kennedy drank three more until the bartender cut him off, at least from obtaining any more shots, our tipster says.

Our tipster adds Kennedy was in a lively mood, joking with others at the bar and even boasting about President Barack Obama, calling him “the best president ever.”

When our tipster countered: “Wait a second. What about your uncle?” — referring, of course, to President John F. Kennedy — the younger Kennedy jovially responded, “Oh yeah! Good one,” and slapped our tipster’s back, he says.

How do I know he was drunk?  He claimed Obama was “the best president ever.”  Only someone completely hammered could ever make a statement like that.

GM repaid their debt to the taxpayer with taxpayer money

Now that GM is basically owned by Barack Obama, one would expect some of the same chicanery that has been omnipresent with his administration to surface at some point.  Keeping your eyes on both hands – and all the shells – is a must these days in order to decipher the truth in anything Obama and his minions say or do.

So when GM announced last week that they had repaid their TARP loans – 5 years ahead of schedule – you just knew that something was up.  Well, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) had his eyes where they needed to be and uncovered a rat.  In a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Grassley questioned the process behind the numbers over at GM:

On Tuesday of this week, Mr. Neil Barofsky, the Special Inspector General for TARP, testified before the Senate Finance Committee.  During his testimony Mr. Barofsky addressed GM’s recent debt repayment activity, and stated that the funds GM is using to repay its TARP debt are not coming from GM earnings.  Instead, GM seems to be using TARP funds from an escrow account at Treasury to make the debt repayments.  The most recent quarterly report from the Office of the Special Inspector General for TARP says “The source of funds for these quarterly [debt] payments will be other TARP funds currently held in an escrow account.” .... 

Furthermore, Exhibit 99.1 of the Form 8K filed by GM with the SEC on November 16, 2009, seems to confirm that the source of funds for GM’s debt repayments was a multi-billion dollar escrow account at Treasury—not from earnings. [...]

When these criticisms were put to GM’s Vice Chairman Stephen Girsky in a television interview yesterday, he admitted that the criticisms were valid:

Question:  Are you just paying the government back with government money?

Mr. Girsky:  Well listen, that is in effect true, but a year ago nobody thought we’d be able to pay this back.

So GM basically took TARP money – taxpayer money, that is – from  another account and used it to repay part of their loan.  They then claimed to have repaid their debt to the government.  Unfortunately, they only “repaid” $8.1 billion and still owe $45.3 billion to the U.S. and $8.1 billion to Canada, and that “repayment” was made with our tax dollars! 

Only with an Obama owned company could this ever take place and be overlooked by basically everybody that matters.  Think the SEC might have a problem with accounting practices such as this at say…JP Morgan or Chase? 

Those CEO’s would be paraded in front of Congress and verbally impaled and demonized for their “reckless” actions, proving once again that “what’s good for thee, is not always for me” in Obama land.

Obama now changing the wording in the mother of all campaign promises

Obama is trying to pull a slight of hand with his campaign pledge of not raising taxes in “any form” for those making under $250,000.  CNBC notes that Obama is now changing the wording of his original promise:

Obama’s VAT admission may explain his recent attempts to alter the terms of his central campaign promise. Twice in the past two weeks, Obama has claimed his middle class tax pledge only applied to income taxes rather than “any form of taxes”.

In his April 10 Weekly Radio Address, Obama said: “And one thing we have not done is raise income taxes on families making less than $250,000. That’s another promise we’ve kept.” In a speech on the evening of April 15, Obama repeated the truncated promise: “And one thing we haven’t done is raise income taxes on families making less than $250,000 a year — another promise that we kept.”

The two recent statements stand in stark contrast to Obama’s original promise: “I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.”

Simple math tells anyone paying attention that the middle class was going to have to get involved in paying for this unprecedented spending spree the left has engaged in.  Taxing just the rich was never going to cover the tab, no matter the populist rhetoric being spewed by liberal ideologues.

The VAT was always on the back burner but was a last resort.  Cap and Trade was going to be the best route for Obama to pick the pocket of the middle class but with that legislation about to be pronounced dead in the Senate, Obama needed another option.  So, hello VAT!
